Why Charge a Subscription?
The Problem
Free social media services make money by selling your information to other companies and showing you adverts or posts from paid sponsors. To maximize profits for their investors, they must increase the number of users on their service and keep everyone using the service as long as possible.
This means they need you to connect with as many people as possible and they develop addictive features like infinite scroll and recommendation algorithms to keep you in their apps as long as possible.
The Alternative
As the old saying goes, "If you're not paying for the product, you are the product."
Instead, we charge a small monthly fee to cover the costs of running the service. That way we don't need to cover those costs by selling your personal information to advertisers or other third parties.
The Benefit to You
This means we can make the app be ad-free, and we don't need to implement features like infinite scroll to keep you in the app, or try to connect you with people you don't actually know to increase the number of eyeballs on the app.
The result is an app that's focused on the features you care about to stay connected with your close friends and family. And that protects your privacy and your personal information.
